The Liberal High School girls tennis team will be the first LHS team to compete in the 2026-27 school year. Liberal travels to Cimarron on Thursday. They were unable to fill the head coaching position so several coaches are combining to make sure the team gets the instruction they deserve. Taylor Wiens, a 5th year assistant, Sergio Borjas, the head coach the previous four years, and David Short, the boys head coach, are combining coaching duties.
There are 20 out for girls tennis. They are led by Sr. Evelin Tarango. She went 10-2 against WAC opponents last year. Tarango qualified for 6A state last year in the 6A West Regional at Garden City. She competed at state last fall in Olathe. Tarango was the Junior Athlete of the Year at LHS last year. Lynette Alonso / Giselle Mesta also made state and graduated last year.
Here is the varsity lineup to begin the season.
#1 Singles- Sr. Evelin Tarango
#2 Singles- Sr. Emery Tuner
#1 Doubles- Sr. Yvanna Rivera and Jr. Maliah Navarro
#2 Doubles- Jr. Bella Patel and Sr. Aileen Figueroa
