The Butler Almost Did It

The first place Saints held off last place Butler in overtime 78-74 Saturday night in the Power Plant in El Dorado. Seward is 6-1 and on top of the Jayhawk West while Butler is 1-6. Seward is 18-3 overall and Butler is 7-14.

Butler led the entire first half and took a 30-28 lead into the locker room.

The Saints took their first lead with an Irvin Hollinger three pointer to make it 44-42 with 13:50 to play. Seward built a lead of 59-45 with seven minutes to play. Seward allowed a 10-0 run by Butler to finish regulation and send the game to overtime. Three Butler guards fouled out helping Seward win the game.

Deverell Biggs led the Saints with 26 but was just 6-12 at the free throw line. Brice Jenkins added 14 and Kaheem Ransom scored 11.

The Saints host Hutchinson Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on B107.5 and kscbnews.net. Sunflower Bank is the buyout sponsor.
