Saints Tennis Results in Pensacola

MEN’S

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The third-ranked Seward County Community College men’s tennis team rolled to a 7-2 team victory over No. 5 Eastern Florida State College on Saturday in the first day of the Pensacola Invitational. The Saints improved to 3-3.

Seward won four of the six singles matches and swept in doubles.

In singles, No. 1 Hugo Lobo defeated Nils Michel, 7-6, 6-7, 10-6, No. 2 Gabe Nery lost to Adriel Azucey, 3-6, 6-4, 3-10, No. 3 Sander Jans beat Sebastian Rivera, 6-2, 6-1 and No. 4 Francisco Vargas knocked off Fabricio Galvan, 6-1, 6-0.

Seward split the final two singles matches as SCCC’s Carlo Izurieta lost to Nicholas Mora, 4-6, 1-6 and Edgar Fougerit won over Sebastian Bunster, 7-5, 6-4.

In doubles, Nery/Jans beat Frederik Oervad/Azucey, 9-7, Nic Rousset/Hugo Lobo beat Michel/Rivera, W 8-6 and Izurieta/Vargas defeated Galvan/Mora, 8-3, to complete the sweep.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The third-ranked Seward County Community College men’s tennis team gained a split of its matches on the second day of the Pensacola Invitational. The Saints, who are 4-4, lost to No. 2 ASA (Miami), 7-2, but defeated No. 9 Harford, 8-1, on Sunday.

ASA (MIAMI)

Seward managed two victories, one in singles and one in doubles, both at the No. 1 slots, against ASA (Miami). Nic Rousset battled back from a one-set deficit to beat Toru Horie, 6-7, 6-4 10-4, while Gabe Nery and Sander Jans beat Tao Castillo and Horie, 9-8.

In the other singles matches, No. 2 Hugo Lobo lost to G. Cruz, 2-6, 0-6, No. 3 Nery fell to Sergio Ingles, 1-6, 4-6, No. 4 Jans was defeated by Matt Carroll, 4-6, 6-3, 4-10, No. 5 Francisco Vargas was beaten by Tomas Santantonio, 3-6, 2-6 and No. 6 Carlo Izurieta lost to Castillo, 2-6, 0-6.

In the other doubles matches, Rousset and Lobo lost to Ingles and Carroll, 4-8, and Izurieta and Francisco were defeated by Vargas and Santantonio, 5-8.

HARFORD

Seward got back on track by winning eight of the nine matches against Harford.

In the singles matches, No. 1 Nic Rousset beat Thomas Norwood, 6-4, 7-6, No. 2 Sander Jans defeated Artur Etzberger, 6-1, 6-2, No. 4 Francisco Vargas knocked off John Brett, W 6-1, 6-0, No. 5 Edgar Fougerit won over Finlay Rowan, 6-1, 6-2, and No. 6 Franck Soulerot beat Alberto Villarmil, 6-1, 6-1.

The only loss for the Saints came when No. 3 Gabe Nery retired because of an injury in his match against Adam Larsen, tied at 6-0, 5-7.

Seward swept in doubles with Nery and Jans defeating Norwood and Etzberger, 8-3, Edgar Fougerit and Hugo Lobo cruising past Larsen and Brett, 8-1 and Carlo Izurieta and Vargas beating Bruno Brocanelli and Rowan, 8-2.

WOMEN’S
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The fifth-ranked Seward County Community College women’s tennis team played short-handed and competed valiantly, but came up on the losing end against No. 6 Eastern Florida State, 5-4, on Saturday in the first day of the Pensacola Invitational. The Lady Saints dropped to 2-2.

Seward played without Alisa Handrugan and had to default a singles and doubles match which ultimately cost it the team victory.

In singles, No. 1 Patricia Panta beat Vasavi Ganesan, 6-2, 6-1, No. 2 Maria Aveiga lost to Tsveti Trifonova, 1-6, 3-6, and No. 3 Alena Macharova beat Chengeto Moyana, 6-2, 6-1. No. 4 Sofia Belluco lost Valeria Arevalo, 0-6, 5-7, and No. 5 Eva Liu fell to Emma Othmer, 0-6, 1-6.

In doubles, Panta and Aveiga beat Ganesan and Trifonova, 8-6, and Macharova and Belluco beat Othmer and Arevalo, 9-8

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 5 Seward County Community College women’s team tennis split its matches on Day Two of the Pensacola Invitational. The Lady Saints lost to second-ranked ASA (Miami), 8-1, but beat No. 20 Harford, 7-2, on Sunday.

Seward, which is 3-3, only had five players due to injury and had to default No.6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches.

ASA (MIAMI)

The lone victory for Seward against ASA (Miami) came when No. 1 singles Patricia Panta rallied from a one-set deficit to beat Molly Helgesson, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.

In the other singles matches, Maria Aveiga lost to Tatiana Simova, 5-7 1-6, Alena Macharova was beaten by Irina Lapustina, 2-6, 6-4, 3-10, Sofia Belluco fell to Blanca Puig Caballero, 5-7, 1-6, and Eva Liu was defeated by Ji Youn Lee, 0-6, 0-6.

In doubles action, Panta and Aveiga lost to Michaela Krauskova and Simova, 1-8, and Macharova and Belluco was downed by Helgesson and Lapustina, 4-8.

HARFORD

The Lady Saints bounced back nicely with seven victories against Harford. The only two losses were due to injury default.

In singles competition, Seward won all its matches in straight sets. No. 1 Patricia Panta defeated Maria Rey, 6-0, 6-2, No. 2 Maria Aveiga won over Noemi Aguirre, 6-2, 6-4, No. 3 Alena Macharova beat Paula Martinez, 6-1, 6-0, No. 4 Sofia Belluco knocked off Sofia Samra, 6-0, 6-1, and No. 5 Eva Liu beat Faith Hill, 6-1 6-0.

In doubles action, Panta and Aveiga beat Rey and Aguirre, 8-2, and Macharova and Belluco blanked Martinez and Samra, 8-0.
