Saints Blast there Way Past Butler

Facing elimination the Seward County Saints made a statement. Seward showed their resilience after an 8-7 loss to Hutchinson Friday night by scoring five first inning runs on the way to an 8-7 win over the Butler Grizzlies Saturday afternoon on a summery day at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita as part of the Region 6 Tournament. The Saints play the loser of Kansas City and Garden City Sunday at 1:30. The game was pushed back due to thunderstorms in Wichita Saturday night. GCCC trails KCK 12-5 in the ninth.

Seward scored five against the Grizzlies in the first. Brent Williams doubled home a run before Jordan Leinweber slugged a two run homer to right for his fifth homer of the season. Kevin Connolly followed that up with a blast over the left center field wall for back to back homers and his third of the season. Mason Marshall singled home another run to make it 5-0. Butler scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-1. Seward responded with a run of their own in the second when Leinweber grounded out but drove home Bryson Allen. The Grizzlies scored five in the third to tie the game. Seward took the lead back in the sixth when Brent Williams singled home a run to lead 7-6. Butler scored in the seventh to tie the game. The Saints took the lead for good in the eighth. Jake Fuller led off with a single in the eighth. Thompson laid down a bunt with two strikes to move Fuller to second. He went to third on a wild pitch. Bryson Allen smashed a fly ball to right center to score the lead run on a sacrifice fly. Keenan Hall relieved Austin King and pitched three and one third innings for the win. He allowed one run. Williams was 3-5 with three RBI’s and added to his NJCAA record with his 37th double. Brandon Urquizo was 3-4.

The Saints are 32-28 and Butler finishes 36-23. The Saints play Sunday at 1:30with Saints Dugout Show at 9:45 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
