Seward Releases Sports Schedules

Ready or not, the 2014-2015 school year is right around the corner and that means that it is time once again to start thinking about Seward County Athletics.  Six Seward teams released their schedules on Monday, which included the volleyball, men's & women's basketball, baseball, and men's & women's tennis teams.

The Lady Saints Volleyball team will open their 2014 season on the road in Lamar, Colorado on August 22nd and 23rd where they will take on Otero, Clarendon, Lamar, and Bethany's JV squad.  The Lady Saints begin conference play on August 27th on the road when they travel to Great Bend to take on Barton and will play three more road matches before their home opener on September 10th against Dodge City in the Greenhouse.  Their next stretch of matches may be their toughest of the year as they travel to the Northeastern Pizza Hut Classic in Sterling, Colorado followed by a road date with defending Jayhawk West Champions Hutchinson and then another long roadie to Scottsbluff, Nebraska to compete in the Wyo-Braska Shootout.  After playing 21 of their first 22 on the road, the Lady Saints will then hit their home stretch of their schedule, playing in the friendly confines of the Greenhouse in 10 straight matches, including the annual Oz-Fest Invitational on September 26th and 27th.  October is packed with home conference matches for the Lady Saints and that will wrap up on October 30th when Seward hosts Cloud County in their final regular season home date of the season on Sophomore Night in the Greenhouse.

The next teams to get things under way will be the Saints and Lady Saints Basketball teams which will tip off their 2014-2015 campaign on Halloween night in the Greenhouse.  The Lady Saints won't have any time to acclimate their new players to the rigors of college basketball as they open the year with Murray State and Hill in the Pepsi Classic in Liberal on October 31st and November 1st and travel on the road to Weatherford before returning home to take on South Plains and Midland on November 14th and 15th in the Billy's/Days Inn Classic.  Trips to Hutchinson and Garden City for classics the next two weekends will ensue for the Lady Saints before they wrap up their home non-conference schedule against Fort Carson and Northwest Kansas Tech on December 5th and 6th in the Pizza Hut Classic.  The Lady Saints Holiday trip this year will be to Las Vegas, where the competition is sure to be strong with a host of perennial powers in the tournament field.  Seward will open conference play on the road at Barton on January 3rd and play their first Jayhawk West game at home on January 5th against Colby.  The Lady Saints take on 2014 NJCAA runners-up Hutchinson on January 28th to complete the first round of conference action and will entertain another 2014 National Tournament participant in Butler on February 21st on Sophomore Night to complete their regular season home schedule.  Seward will wrap up their Jayhawk West schedule on February 28th when they travel to Hutchinson in a game with playoff implications sure to be on the line.

The Saints men will also open their 2014-2015 seasons at home in Liberal as they battle a pair of Sooner State foes in Northern Oklahoma-Enid and Redlands on October 31st and November 1st in the Greenhouse.  Their stiff early season schedule continues the next weekend when they go to Midland to take on the host squad as well as Odessa in a pair of games that are sure to give the Saints an early season measuring stick.  November 14th and 15th the Saints will be back home in the Billy's/Days Inn Classic as they play WJCAC competitors Clarendon and Frank Phillips.  The Saints return to Texas the following weekend to take on powerhouse South Plains and New Mexico Military and then make the long trip to Yuma, Arizona to battle Eastern Arizona and Arizona Western to close out November.  The Saints finish their non-conference slate December 5th and 6th against On Point and Planet Athlete Prep in the Pizza Hut Classic.  The Saints will then have to wait 27 days to begin defense of their four straight Jayhawk West titles as they kick off conference action January 3rd on the road at Barton and play their first home conference tilt on January 5th against Colby.  Seward and Hutchinson renew their rivalry on January 28th in the Greenhouse and the Saints welcome defending Region VI Champs Pratt to Liberal on February 7th.  Dodge City comes in for a Homecoming battle on Valentine's Day and the Saints play their final regular season home game of the year on February 21st against Butler who comes back over to the Jayhawk West for 2015.  Seward closes out their 2014-2015 regular season February 28th when all eyes will be on the Sports Arena in Hutchinson when the Saints and Blue Dragons do battle in a date that has historically been crucial in the race for the Jayhawk West title.

The Saints and Lady Saints Tennis teams will look to build on a strong 2013 fall season with another in 2014.  The teams will play a matching schedule which begins September 5th and 6th in Wichita at the Wichita Collegiate Invitational with talent from all levels of collegiate tennis competing for one crown.  They will remain on the road the next two weekends as they go to Salina for the Bethany Invitational and then to the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado for the Metro State Invitational.  Their marquee event of the fall season comes on September 26th through the 28th at the ITA Regional Tournament in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where they will see the best that the Central USA has to offer at the junior college level.  They complete their fall slate with a trip to Roswell, New Mexico where they will take on New Mexico Military, Collin County, and Mesa in a dual match tournament in the desert on October 3rd and 4th.  The teams have also release a partial 2015 spring schedule which includes an opening weekend tournament in Plano, Texas on February 13th and 14th and a home date against Tabor on March 21st.

The Saints Baseball team released both their fall and spring schedules on Monday.  Their fall scrimmage season will see them play seven home dates, including their opener August 31st against Dodge City and an October 3rd date against rival Garden City.  Their fall road travels will take them to Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 13th & 14th as well as trips to Garden City and Dodge City among others.  The annual KJCCC All-Star Weekend for Jayhawk Conference sophomores will be on September 19th and 20th in Wichita at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.  The Saints 2015 spring schedule will look very much like the schedule that Seward has played in the past few years.  The guys in green open on January 31st at home against McCook before a three game trip to Dallas, Texas where they will meet Galveston half way.  The Saints open conference play on February 28th against Dodge City at Brent Gould Field and welcome Hutchinson to town on March 14th & 15th.  April will bring the Saints home series with Colby and Butler as well as non-conference matchups with Clarendon and Frank Phillips while they travel to Cloud County and Barton in conference action.  Seward closes out their 2015 regular season schedule on April 28th against Frank Phillips and will hope to be at home again on May 2nd and 3rd when the Region VI Tournament opens with the top four teams in both the East and the West hosting three game play-in series.
