Firefighters Douse Vehicle Fire
03/22/2013

At 11:20 am Friday the Liberal Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire in the back yard of 420 Princeton Ave.  First arriving personnel were on scene at 11:21 am reporting a working vehicle fire with the engine compartment & cab fully engulfed.  The first engine arrived at 11:24 am and the fire was quickly extinguished.  There was no damage to an adjoining fence and detached garage as a result of quick action by neighbors controlling the fire with a garden hose.

The vehicle, a 1953 Ford Pickup was a total loss.  The fire is believed to have originated in the engine compartment and spread to the cab through the firewall.  The exact cause remains undetermined at this time.

Fire units cleared the scene at 12:02 pm and were back in service at 12:25 pm.
