Liberal Fire Department Battles Restaurant Fire

At 4:13 am on Sunday September 4th, the Liberal Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from the roof of Tequila’s Restaurant located at 748 E. Pancake Blvd. First arriving law enforcement officers confirmed heavy smoke from the roof of the building at 4:14 am. Fire units arrived on scene at 4:18 am and immediately made entrance to the building through the East side. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and extreme heat throughout the business. After a short search the fire was located and extinguished and ventilation efforts were started. The fire was declared under control at 4:57 am. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries to civilians or responders were reported. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours and the last units were returned to service at 12:09 pm.

Approximately 25% of the structure was completely burned out by the fire and the remainder on the building suffered extensive smoke and heat damage. The exact origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation at this time. Also responding to assist with the incident were the Liberal Police Department and Seward County Sheriff’s Officers & Seward County EMS
