Doubles Teams Lead LHS at Emporia

Two doubles teams take Second Place Honors at the Emporia Invitational Tennis Tournament as Redskin Tennis competed against some of the best teams from eastern Kansas on Saturday. Liberal competed with teams from Emporia, Valley Center, Salina South, Ark City, and Shawnee Heights. The Redskins did not place as a team, but individually, teams improved their seeding chances at Regionals with impressive wins over quality opponents.

Individual Results:

#1 Singles: Josh Hamilton went 0-5 on the day but played well and gained valuable experience. He lost to Valley Cente s Tyler Dolt 0-8, lost to Empori s Chris Reimer 0-8, lost to Ark Cit s Jordan Butler 4-8, lost to Salina Sout s Zach Lantz 0-8, then lost to Shawnee Height Chance Joost 0-8.

#2 Singles: Hai Vo competed hard and also gained valuable experience finishing 0-5. He lost to Empori s Zach Windsor 2-8, lost to Valley Cente s Jeremy Goering 1-8, lost to Ark Cit s Alex Behrens 2-8, lost to Salina Sout s Trent Zamecnik 2-8, then lost to Shawnee Height Tanner Kaniper 3-8.

#1 Doubles: Duc Nguyen & Vince Nguyen went 4-1 finishing 2nd Place. They manhandled most of their opponents in impressive form before losing a match closer than the score indicates in the final. They defeated Valley Cente s Andrew Mayfield/Max Berning 8-1, defeated Empori s Brandon Loewen/Austin Heavener 8-0, defeated Ark Cit s John Rohr/Macen Vargas 8-2, defeated Salina Sout s Jordan Robl/Chris Arpin 8-2, then lost a tough match 1-8 to Shawnee Height Philip Lucero & Bennet Bleil to win the Silver Medal for 2nd Place.

#2 Doubles: Antonio Rodriguez & Drew Wills went 3-2 on the day finishing 2nd Place. They defeated Valley Cente s Ethan Parsons/Matt Dolezal 8-6, lost to Empori s Mark Kitchens/Hayden Hanson 5-8, defeated Ark Cit s Sean Stewart/Ryan Standerfer 8-6, lost to Salina Sout s Adam Robl/Chris Garcia 3-8, then defeated Shawnee Height Aaron Wheatley/Jordan Sester 8-7 to win the Silver Medal for 2nd Place.
