Defense Finds Groove in Gruver

KSCB News - December 14, 2011 7:26 am

Liberal head basketball coach Drew Gruver needed a timeout. The class 1A Gruver Greyhounds (5-8) just hit another three pointer. The Hounds led 15-13 and trailed just 19-17 after one quarter. The LHS fifth year coach focused on his team’s defense. Liberal allowed just 16 points the rest of the game in a 57-33 win at Gruver Tuesday night.

The Redskins led 38-24 at the half and 48-29 after three quarters.

DeVondre Livingston led Liberal with 12 points while Osvaldo Villareal scored 11. Andre Jackson added nine as 10 Skins scored.

The nephew of former Seward all American Tracy Wynn and current Lady Saint head coach Toby Wynn, Korbin Irwin scored 10 for Gruver and leads the team at 11 points and seven rebounds per game.

The Redskins are 2-2 while Gruver falls to 5-8 and played with only seven players due to injuries.

LHS hosts Perryton Friday night at about 7:45 on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
