Cooperatives Come Together to Help the Community

KSCB News - February 15, 2011 4:54 pm

Panhandle Telephone Cooperative, Inc. and Tri-County Electric Cooperative announced today that they recently donated $3,000 to the Texas County Family YMCA, a charitable community service organization located in Guymon. The donation to the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign will help fund various initiatives including scholarships and children’s programming. YMCA CEO Rob Rixon said the YMCA could not serve the community at the level it does without the support of the community. PTCI CEO Ron Strecker said this joint effort proves the cooperative difference. “Many individuals and organizations are helping the YMCA,” said Strecker. “PTCI joined with Tri-County Electric to make this contribution because both of our organizations are cooperatives that believe in concern for community. We understand the YMCA’s important function for the people of Texas County.” Tri-County Electric CEO Jack L. Perkins feels the contribution directly benefits the cooperative’s members. “The YMCA is an excellent local resource for our cooperative’s members in the area,” said Perkins. “When making charitable contributions, our goal is to enhance the quality of life for the people we serve. The YMCA of Texas County is a great example of an organization doing just that for our members.” The campaign has raised about $35,000 to date toward its goal of $70,000. Rixon said any business, community organization or individual interested in supporting the YMCA can contact them by phone at 580-338-5720 for additional information.
