Beaver Native Steps in for McVay to Lead Dusters

Brock Kappelmann - August 18, 2016 1:40 pm

Mike McVay has led the Dusters on the field for the past 21 seasons as head coach.  During the spring, the venerable coach decided it was time to hang up the whistle.  He remains athletic director at the school.  This season, a Beaver graduate will lead the Dusters on Friday nights. 2002 BHS graduate Jerod Cline is the head coach.  Cline, an assistant from McVay the past five seasons is joined by Beaver graduates Chuck Madsen, John Hampton, and Eric Cline on the coaching staff.  All come from Beaver and played for McVay at Tom McVay Stadium.  Defensive coordinator Max Whipple also joins the Beaver staff.  Cline has changed the offense and defense but says many of McVay’s traditions will continue.  Beaver was 4-6 last year and returns seven starters on both sides of the ball.  The Dusters have 25 out for football at the Class A school.  Some of the key Dusters are Sr. RB/LB Thomas Konkel, Sr. OL/DL Preston Yates, Sr. RB/DB Gunhar Martin, Sr. RB/LB Kylan Redemer, and Jr. WR/DB Kolby McDonald.  The Dusters were featured during the Thursday Sportsguys.
