An Oz Some Saturday in Liberal

Saturday, just click you heels together three times and head out to Dorothy’s House and the Coronado Museum for a trip to Oz. Oz Fest is Saturday beginning with a breakfast with the Oz characters at the south McDonald’s. Liberal Parks and Recreation puts on a Toto Trot Fun Run/Walk with registration beginning at Dorothy’s House at 7:30 with the 5K race at 8 a.m. followed by a one mile prediction walk/run at 9 a.m. with a children’s 1/4 mile run to follow. Advanced registration in encouraged by calling Liberal Parks and Recreation at 626-0133.

Saturday’s Oz Fest will include live entertainment all day featuring music from That Liberal Jazz Band, Hold Still Band, and the DG’s. Oz Alive presentations will be in Dorothy’s House where the story becomes real. The Leader and Times puts on the OzSome Race. There will be special children’s activities hourly including the Southern Pioneer Oz Games, face painting, SPBH Money Hunt, and 1st Southern Baptist Church Jump for Fun Bouncy Houses.

There will be plenty to eat with food and craft vendors. There will be cooking contests with the Best Market Auntie Em’s Pie Baking Contest.

It’s a chance to dress like some of the characters from Oz with the JC Penney’s Look-Alike Competitions and the Dick Herbel, DVM Toto Look-Alike for dogs only. There will be Oz Trivia on state all day. The Oz Fest Committee puts on the Men’s Ruby Slipper Contest.

The Verizon Wireless Sony Playstation Phone Games and Texting Contest will alow for talented fingers while the SCCC Bookstore promotes the Oz National Yellow Brick Thowing Championship. Epic Touch gives basketball players a chance to strut their stuff with the Basketball Shooting Contest.

Oz Fest fans can register to win one of two OzSome getaways this year. You could win a complimentary stay at Holiday Inn Express, breakfast at Pancake House, dinner at Salty Dog, tours of the Land of Oz, Mid America Air Museum and Baker Arts Center. Another choice is a complementary stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites, dinner at Ruffino’s, gas card from Rash Oil, and free tours of the Land of Oz, Mid America Air Museum, and Baker Arts Center.
