Saints Lose Battle of the Boards in Goodland

The Fort Hays Tech Tigers made just a few more plays in a 73-68 win over the Seward County Saints on Super Bowl Sunday at Max Jones Fieldhouse in Goodland.  The Saints have dropped their past three road games.  Tech out-rebounded the Saints 35-28.  They led second chance points 16-6.

The Saints led 14-13 with 10:33 to play in the first half.  Tech led 26-22 before the Saints went on a 5-0 run to lead 27-26 with 2:25 to play.  The Tigers led 32-27 but a step back jumper by Korbin Dowdell made it 32-31 Tigers at the half.  The Tigers took a 43-38 lead.  The Tigers led 47-40 with 11:54 to play.  Tech led 55-47 with 8:43 to go.  The Saints rallied and took a 61-59 lead after back to back steals and ensuing Korbin Dowdell lay ups with 4 minutes to play.  The Saints led 63-61 but after missing the front end of a one in one, the Tigers nailed a three to lead 64-63.  Tech would never trail again.

The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Bailey Milligan with 14 points.  Korbin Dowdell scored 11.  Lucas N’Gombo scored 10.

The Saints shot 46 percent from the field making 4-14 from three and 20-24 from the free throw line.  Tech shot 38 percent

Fort Hays Tech is 12-10 overall and 8-9 in the KJCCC.   Seward is 16-8 overall and 11-7 in the Jayhawk.  Seward is 2-6 at Goodland.       The Saints host Garden City Wednesday night at 8pm on 1270 and 92.3.
