Hays High’s new school and athletic facilities have all the bells and whistles. And so does the Hays girls basketball team. After going 22-1 as the state runner up last year, Hays routed Liberal 66-34 Tuesday night at the brand new Hays High School. The Lady Redskins committed 28 turnovers in the loss.
Hays jumped out to a 17-2 and led 19-4 after one. Hays led 26-4 as the Lady Red wilted underneath the HHS man-to-man defense. It was 34-11 Hays at the half. Liberal outscored Hays 21-16 in the third quarter and trailed 50-32 after three. It was all Hays in the fourth quarter.
Shamari Lewis was Epic Touch Player of the Game scoring 11 points. Madysen Hammond scored a season high eight.
Hays improves to 4-0 and 1-0 in the WAC. Hays wins their 20th in a row in the WAC. Liberal falls to 3-1 and hosts Wichita North for the home opener in the Big House Friday night at 5:30 with Redskin Pre-game at 5:15 on 1270 and 92.3.
