Seward’s shooting was as cold as the weather. Hutchinson’s Lady Dragons held the Lady Saints to 17.5 percent shooting in a 68-41 HCC win over SCCC Saturday afternoon and evening in the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Hutchinson jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Seward tied the game at 11-11 after one. Seward claimed a brief 13-11 lead before Hutch went 10-2 run to lead 21-15. The Lady Dragons led 27-17 at the half. HCC jumped out of the halftime locker room to lead 33-19 at the 7:16 mark of the third quarter. Hutch out scored SCCC 22-9 in the third quarter to lead 49-26 after three. SCCC was 1-12 in the third quarter after going 4-25 in the first half.
Seward went 10-57 from the field while making 5-22 from three and 16-17 from the foul line. HCC made 43 percent from the field while going 7-21 from three point range and 11-20 from the foul line. SCCC committed 18 turnovers in the loss. HCC led points in the paint 34-8.
Avery Marchino was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 22 points and five rebounds.
Hutchinson is 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. Hutch has won eight in a row over the Lady Saints. Seward falls to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the KJCCC. Seward plays at Pratt Wednesday night at 5:30 with Saints Shootaround at 5:15 on 1270 and 92.3.
