Lady Saints Hold on in Concordia

Seward built a 70-61 lead with 2:20 to play and then held on to beat the Cloud Lady T-Birds 73-71 Wednesday night in Bryant Gymnasium in Concordia.  It’s Seward’s first win at Cloud since January 29, 2022.  KJCCC Player of the Week Avery Marchino scored 26 points with eight rebounds in the win.

Cloud led 7-4.  The game was tied 9-9 at the media timeout.  Seward took a 15-9 lead after back to back three pointers by Avery Marchino and A’Neya Chambers.  It was 15-13 after one quarter.  The Lady Saints took leads of 24-19 and 26-21.  Cloud raced back to lead 35-30.  SCCC finished the half on an 8-2 run to lead 38-37 after an A’Neya Chamber put back beat the buzzer.  Cloud led 44-38 early in the third for their biggest lead.  But SCCC rallied to lead 53-48 and led 56-52 at halftime.  Seward led 57-52 and 59-54 with six minutes remaining.  Cloud tied the game at 59-59.  Seward built early fourth quarter leads of 67-59 and led 70-61 with 2:20 to play.  Cloud cut the lead to 70-69 with 30 seconds remaining.  Trinity Holmes hit a pair of clutch free throws with 21 seconds left to lead 72-69.  Holmes made 1-2 free throws to lead 73-69 with 10 seconds left.  Cloud made a lay up to cut the lead to 73-71.  Cloud stole the Lady Saint inbound pass but their desperation three landed in the arms of the victorious Lady Saints.

Seward shot 41 percent from the field making 8-23 from three and 15-25 from the foul line.  Cloud shot 42 percent from the field making 8-20 from three and 11-15 from the free throw line.  Seward out-rebounded Cloud 40-35.

Avery Marchino was Epic Touch Player of the Game with 26 points and eight rebounds.  A’Neya Chambers had 13 points and six rebounds.  Kimora Fagan scored 11.
