The Liberal City Commission met on Tuesday evening and honored the Employee of the Quarter. Aaron Luman is the recipient of the third quarter award for Service Excellence. The Service Excellence Award
recognizes an employee who demonstrates exceptional customer service to both coworkers and the public, or who shows outstanding community engagement.
The Commission gave approval to Ordinance No. 4641, which approves the current round of zoning amendments for the City of Liberal as previously approved by the Planning and Zoning Board, removing the short term rentals from the changes.
Resolution No. 2443, was approved, authorizing application submission for the Kansas
Department of Transportation’s Innovative Technology Program Grant, and allowing the Mayor, City
Manager, and Grant Administrator to execute grant documents. Also approved was Resolution No. 2444 for the waiver of requirement K.S.A. 75-1120a(a) regarding Generally Accepted Accounting Principals. This audit is tentatively scheduled for June 2026.
Commissioners approved the expansion of the Parking lot at the Airport Terminal in an amount not to exceed $30,000.00. This will be funded from the Economic Development portion of the One Cent Sales Tax.
City Commissioners approved the Contract for Sale and Purchase of Interest in Real Estate pertaining
to the North Fire Station, in the amount of $500,000.00, with funding having been approved from the Streets, Drainage, Capital Improvements portion of the One Cent Sales Tax in 2026. This buys out the Seward County portion of the Fire Station.
