According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, traffic changes are planned to begin the week of Oct. 13 to allow for the passing lane project on U.S. 83 north of Sublette. The 4-mile project starts near the U.S. 56/83 junction and extends north, ending 2 miles south of the U.S. 83/U.S. 160 junction.
One-lane traffic in each direction along U.S. 83 will be shifted to the east utilizing the shoulders and the northbound lane. A speed reduction of 35 mph will be in effect along a section of the project, and an 11-foot width restriction will be in place. The traveling public can expect minimal delays. KDOT will continue to provide updates on traffic impacts as construction progresses.
Venture Corporation of Great Bend is the contractor on this $15.5 million project, and it is expected to be completed in spring 2026, weather permitting.
