Hays, KS — The LHS Lady Redskin Golf Team traveled to Hays to participate in the Great Bend Invitational at Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course. The venue was changed from Lake Barton Country Club due to an infestation of mosquitoes at Lake Barton. The par 71 course proved to be a fair, but challenging, test of skills.
Junior Ailynn Anderson from Garden City captured her first individual Gold Medal with a score of 78 (+7). Garden City captured first through fourth place to capture the Team Gold.
LHS Senior and Team Captain Adimaris Lopez paced the Lady Redskins with a 107, good for the10th place individual medal. That was the first individual varsity medal earned by an LHS Girls Golfer since Ashlyn Wagenseller medaled three years ago. Her score of 107 was her second best score of the season. “We are so proud of Addy and so happy for her,” Coach Bert Luallen said. “She had to sink a five foot putt on her final hole and then wait for the final results of another golfer in the field before we knew she had won that medal.”
The tenth place finish for Lopez earned her six very important points toward All-WAC recognition, bumping her from the 13th and last 2nd Team All-WAC position up to 11th. With one final WAC tournament remaining, it will be important for her to finish strong and secure her position.
Sophomore Scarlett Carr carded a 116 for 15th place and another point toward possible All-WAC recognition. Carr will most likely need to break 100 for the first time in her career in Garden City to have a chance of moving into All-WAC status.
