LHS Girls Golf Continues Late Season Blitz

The Lady Redskin Golf Team continued their late season blitz of five tournaments in eleven days to close out the 2025 season with a trip to Lakin. This was the third of those five tournaments. The heavy late-season schedule coupled with conflicts in other school activities for some of the players, Coach Bert Luallen took only two golfers to the Lakin Invitational.

The blustery winds sent scores soaring as the field of 49 golfers battled gusts exceeding 40 mph. “It’s hard to stand up in winds like this, let alone trying to swing a club and hit a golf ball!” Coach Luallen opined. Only two players scored below 100 with medalist Lileah Villa shooting a 94.
Sophomores Scarlett Carr, playing in her sixth event this season, shot a 126.
Sophomore Valeria Gandara Vega was the big surprise of the day recording a career-best 118 – the first time she has broken 120. “We’re really proud of Valeria and excited for her. She’s been playing golf for only seven weeks!” boasted Luallen.
The Lady Redskins will close out the regular season this week with the final two WAC tournaments. On Tuesday, they will travel to Hays to compete in the Great Bend Invitational at Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course. Great Bend normally plays their home events at Lake Barton Country Club, but due to an infestation of mosquitoes the tournament has been moved to Hays. Then they will finish the season at Buffalo Dunes in the Garden City Invitational. The KSHSAA 6A Western Sub-State Tournament will be held Monday, October 13th, at Mariah Hills in Dodge City.
