Bee Jays Hold On in First Road Game

Playing on the road for the first time this season, the Liberal Bee Jays built leads of 5-0 and 7-1 and then held on to beat the Dodge City A’s 7-5 Tuesday night at Cavalier Field.  The Bee Jays have won nine in a row against Dodge City.  The Bee Jays have won 25 of the last 27 against the A’s.

Liberal scored five runs in the first in front of the Dodge City crowd.  Drew Grego singled and Todd Baffa walked.  Landon Bruce ripped a double to left to score Grego.  Baffa scored on a fielder’s choice.  Carson Willis lined a three run home run over the wall in left center for the 5-0 lead.  Dodge City scored in the fourth when Cade Culbreath hit a solo home run.  The B.J.’s got two runs back in the seventh when Jack Ryan launched a mammoth home run to left.  Drew Grego doubled and would score on a wild pitch for a 7-1 lead.  Liberal led 7-1 with two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the seventh when the game went haywire on the Bee Jays.  B.J. pitching walked five and hit one in the seventh as the A’s scored three to make it 7-4.  The A’s scored two more in the eighth but B.J. pitcher Aden Bowman struck out two A’s to get out of the inning.  Bowman worked a scoreless ninth for the save.

Dodge City out-hit the Bee Jays 9-6.  DC made the game’s only error.  Carson Willis was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 2-4 with a home run and three RBI’s.  Drew Grego was 2-5 with a double.  Jason Davis started on the mound and went three shutout innings.  Braden Whipple worked two innings allowing one run with three strikeouts.  Aden Bowman was the fifth pitcher of the night for Liberal and earned the save going 1 and 2/3 innings with four strikeouts.

Dodge City is 6-7 overall and 4-4 in the Rocky Mountain.  Liberal is 6-3 overall and 5-3 in the RMBL.  Liberal hosts the Colorado Roughriders Thursday night at 7pm at Brent Gould Field.  The game airs on 1270 and 92.3.  Southwest Medical Center is the buyout sponsor.
