Liberal is set to celebrate Pancake Day on March 4th, 2025, with a special tribute to the late Al Shank Jr., a beloved community figure. In honor of their father, Al Shank Jr’s three adult children—Megan (Lyn) Harp, Marc (Becky) Shank, and Miranda (Andy) Ruland—will serve as this year’s Parade Grand Marshalls. They will be the honored guests at the Grand Marshall Reception at the Baker Arts Center on Monday, February 3rd from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Al Shank Jr., who passed away in early 2024, was a prominent member of the Liberal community. He was known for his long-standing role as the parade and race announcer for the International Pancake Day Race, a tradition he inherited from his father, Al Shank Sr. Both Shanks are memorialized in the Pancake Day Hall of Fame for their contributions.
The decision to honor Al Shank with his children as Grand Marshalls is a heartfelt gesture that reflects the deep respect and admiration the community has for the Shank family. It’s a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated so much of his life to making Pancake Day a memorable and joyous occasion for everyone involved.
As the community gathers to celebrate, the presence of Megan, Marc, and Miranda will undoubtedly add a special touch to the festivities. Their participation ensures that Al Shank’s legacy will continue to inspire and bring joy to future generations.
Join the community on March 4th to celebrate International Pancake Day and honor the memory of Al Shank. It promises to be an event filled with fun, community spirit, and of course delicious pancakes.
