Man Arrested in Cimarron County Hit and Run

Joe Denoyer - May 28, 2023 6:26 am

The hard work of the Traffic Homicide Unit of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has resulted in an arrest in a hit-and-run fatal collision it worked on April 26. This happened on Highway 385 in Cimarron County. Michael McCauley was driving a semi-tractor when his front tire was compromised, causing him to go off the road and overturn. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

OHP investigators were able to determine that a semi-tractor hauling a John Deere swather had struck McCauley’s semi-tractor, causing the tire to be damaged resulting in the fatal collision. The driver of the semi-tractor, however, kept driving and did not stop at the scene. Troopers arrested Johan Heinrichs in Dalhart, Texas on May 23. According to the probable cause affidavit, Heinrichs admitted to side-swiping the semi-tractor and admitted to knowing the resulting crash caused a fatality.

Heinrichs was booked into jail on charges of first-degree manslaughter, leaving the scene of a collision involving a death, and destroying evidence.
