Joe Denoyer - September 27, 2022 9:16 pm

The Liberal City Commission met on Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm at the Blue Bonnet Park Building and approved Ordinance 4583 which will vacate the platted alley through block 23 of the Airport Industrial Park but retain an easement for utility purposes. The only utility currently in the alley is the City sewer.

Also approved was Ordinance 4584 establishing the Traffic Safety Board for the City of Liberal, and granting them duties and responsibilities to effect minor traffic changes within the city.

The Commission approved a replat of the Holly Ridge 4th Addition and approved J&R Audio for the installation of 15 4RE units in the City’s patrol cars. Along with that, the Commission approved to upgrade to the 4RE system and the purchase of additional server storage to accommodate all the new videos that would be recorded on the 4RE. The total project price is $83,478.46.

Devon Ponder, General Manager of the Comfort Suites, was appointed to a four-year term ending in October 2026, and the Commissioners reappointed Jay Bhakta, owner of Quality Inn and Motel 6, to an additional 4-year term ending in October 2026 on the Liberal Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board.

Also, the Commission was informed of a Public Television Documentary, Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid which could feature Liberal. The Commission agreed to the terms of the contract.
