College to Host Fall Town Meeting Thursday, Sept. 29

Joe Denoyer - September 26, 2022 3:36 pm

By Rachel Coleman SCCC

LIBERAL, Kan. —Seward County Community College President Brad Bennett likes to remind the Saints family that “Community is our middle name.” To put action to those words, SCCC will host a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Shank Humanities Building — weather permitting, the meeting will take place in the outdoor amphitheater, with the Showcase Theater as an indoor backup location.

Bennett said the Town Hall is focused on listening to community concerns, and providing a forum for questions and suggestions.

“We are in the process of finalizing our college Strategic Plan for the next three years, and a key part of that process was the focus groups and information gathering we did in the community,” he said. “Just like the Strategic Plan is intended to be a blueprint for everyday work, we are committed to connecting with the community on a regular basis, in a variety of ways.”

Bennett noted that the previous weekend, which included the fall homecoming football game and activities for Liberal High School, and the Chamber of Commerce Duck Festival, reflected the college’s connection with the community.

“We had a great presence in the parade, with students and employees marching and riding vehicles, handing out T-shirts and candy, and then our student-athletes showed up for the Duck Race and the other events on Saturday,” he said. “Our Saints pride was really shining.”

Like the previous Town Hall meetings, Bennett said the event Thursday should last an hour or less and is designed to allow plenty of conversation with community members.

“Come on by, see how great campus is looking as the leaves start to change color, and share your ideas,” he said. “We can’t wait to see you.”
