SCCC brings a spelling bee to the musical stage

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Community College Humanities Department is proud to present its spring musical, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” beginning on Thursday, April 21 through Saturday, April 23 at the SCCC Showcase Theater. All performances begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are $10.

Parental discretion is advised for some language and themes.

Based on the book by Rachel Shenkin, an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

For more information or to reserve tickets, call (620) 417-1451. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
