Hoops and mental health: Dr. Anne Weese to speak at SCCC

LIBERAL, Kan. — After two years that have stretched individuals and the mental health system to their limits, help is on the way: Seward County Community College alum and member of the high-flying, national championship Lady Saints of 2001-02 Anne Weese will visit campus for Homecoming weekend.

Dr. Anne (pronounced “Annie”) Weese is the Director of Mental Wellness and Sport Psychology at Kansas State University and a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Kansas. A native of Salina, Weese played basketball and softball at SCCC before transferring to the University of Notre Dame where she played basketball for coach Muffet McGraw, graduating with a degree in Psychology.

She then took a graduate assistant coach position at Oklahoma State University where she was a member of the women’s basketball coaching staff. At OSU, she obtained her masters and doctoral degrees. She is trained in Biofeedback, DBT, and emotion-focused therapy.

She and her wife Claudia live in Manhattan with their two sons, Sheahon and Murphy. She was a

member of the National Championship basketball team, earning a record of 72-1 over her two

basketball seasons.

Weese will present a program titled “The How and Why of Mental Health,” focusing on how taking care of mental health and ourselves as a whole benefits not only the individual but teams, professional groups, and even the community. The 7 p.m. event on Friday in the Greenhouse is available at no charge, and the public is invited to attend.
