SCCC Offers Condolences to Sharp Family

Joe Denoyer - July 28, 2021 9:01 pm

Members of the Seward County Community College family join the Sharp family in mourning the loss of community pillar Gene Sharp, who died early Wednesday.

A military veteran, attorney, and lifelong baseball fan, Sharp led the way in establishing a plethora of community ventures, from Kids Inc. youth sports to his role as lead donor for the Sharp Family Champions Center on the campus of SCCC. The indoor, multisport practice facility completed Phase 1 construction in 2019 and is in process for Phase 2.

Sharp’s wife, JoAnn, served as a college founder, supporter, and former trustee.

“Gene Sharp had a significant impact on the community, helping create longstanding traditions and generously supporting new initiatives,” said SCCC Interim President Dennis Sander. “His presence will be greatly missed on campus, where we encounter his legacy daily.”
