Seward County Sheriff’s Office Investigate Fraud

On June 24th, 2021 at approximately 8:00 AM the Seward County Sheriff’s Office took a report for theft and criminal use of a financial card purchases from Keating Tractor.  Representatives from Keating Tractor informed the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, approximately $200.00 of tools and equipment were purchased with fraudulent credit cards.  During the investigation it was found that the fraudulent purchases made from Keating Tractor started from a Facebook Scam.  On Facebook the suspect informed individuals they could purchase tools at half price through a COVID Assistance Program and all the individual had to do is send money to the suspect by placing currency on Walmart Gift Cards and giving the number of the gift card to the suspect.  The Seward County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizens of Seward County for their assistance with the investigation of this scam.  The tools purchased with the fraudulent credit cards have been located and returned to Keating Tractor.
