SCCC Poetry Contest Moving Forward

Joe Denoyer - March 24, 2020 8:08 am

Poetry, it is sometimes said, is all about slowing down. Pausing to notice the details. Savoring everyday beauty.

Writers — and would-be writers — have more than enough time to do just that, as the world health situation requires social distancing and changes to the best-laid plans. Seward County Community College’s beloved Annual Poetry Coffee House is no different.

“The Poetry Coffee House scheduled for April 6, 2020, has been canceled,” the SCCC Humanities Department announced. “Kansas Poet Laureate Huascar Medina will not be traveling.”

Disappointed poetry lovers should take note, added organizer and SCCC English Instructor, Dr. Lori Muntz.

“The poetry contest has NOT been canceled. New deadline for poetry is March 25. You do not have to read to be a winner,” she stated.
