Icy Roads Cause Accident in Texas County

Joe Denoyer - January 17, 2020 4:03 am

Icy roads were the cause of an accident Thursday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 5:30pm on US Highway 412, 10 miles east of Hardesty, Oklahoma, in Texas County.

A 2008 Ford F-250 driven by Eilish Rose Marquart , 24, of Spring Hill, Florida, was traveling east on US Highway 412. A 2006 Peterbuilt 379 driven by Kenneth Roy Elkerton,  64, of Wiggins, Colorado.was traveling west on Highway 412. Marquart lost control on the icy roads causing the Ford to depart the regularly traveled portion of the roadway. The pick up stuck a concrete bridge rail with the right rear tire and fender.

The Ford then re-entered the roadway, crossing the center line. Elkerton swerved to the right, striking the concrete rail on the bridge. The pick up  then slid into the semi then spun around, coming to rest in the upright position in the eastbound lane of traffic. The semi continued westbound, coming to rest in the upright position  on the westbound shoulder.  Marquart was pinned for 36 minutes before being extricated by the Guymon Fire and Rescue with the use of the jaws of life and a spreader. She was transported  to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas, by Guymon EMS. Admitted in stable condition with head trunk internal, and arm injuries.

Elkerton refused medical treatment on scene.
