Tom Thrall Selected as Morton County Sheriff

Tom Thrall has been selected as Morton County Sheriff.  The Morton County Republican Party announced the selection Wednesday.

That’s after voters in Morton County have decided to remove Sheriff Thad Earls from office following a recall election held earlier this month.

Earls had faced months of criticism from the Morton County Board of County Commissioners and the county attorney, who accused him of a range of misconduct, including mishandling evidence and falsifying employee time sheets.

Here is the press release from the Morton County Republican Party:

“On June 24, the duly called convention of the Morton County Republican Party met pursuant to Kansas law to fill the vacancy in the Office of Sheriff of Morton County.  Following the nomination and voting process conducted by the elected Republican precinct committeemen and committeewomen, Tom Thrall was selected as the party’s nominee for appointment as Morton County Sheriff.

Thrall’s appointment is pending approval and official appointment by the Governor of Kansas, as required by Kansas law.  Upon the Governor’s approval and the administration of the oath of of office, he will assume the duties of Sheriff of Morton County.”

The Morton County Republican Party extends its sincere appreciation to every individual who expressed an interest in serving our county.  We also offer our heartfelt thanks to the Republican precinct committeemen and committeewomen for their dedication to Morton County, their thoughtful deliberation, and their commitment to carrying out this important responsibility with professionalism, integrity, and respect for the law. “
