Zo Ann Roland, age 85, of Moscow, Kansas, died, May 13, 2026, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kansas. She was born on December 21, 1940, in Hugoton, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Avis (Anderson) Curtis.
Zo Ann grew up in Moscow, Kansas, where she graduated from Moscow High School. She later attended Fort Hays State University. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Garry Roland. She was a proud farm wife. Throughout her life, Zo Ann worked many different jobs and touched many lives along the way. One of her first jobs was as a telephone operator in Moscow. She also worked at the CO-OP, the post office, and drove both activity and route buses for the school. Among her many life achievements, Zo was especially proud of her work contributing to the construction of the Moscow swimming pool. She was also deeply devoted to the Moscow United Methodist Church, where she faithfully cared for and maintained the church facilities and played the piano every Sunday. She generously shared her musical talent by also playing the piano for weddings and funerals for many years as well as accompanying her children, grandchildren, and whatever student needed an accompanist for contest. Alongside her husband Garry, she served as a Junior High UMYF sponsor, helping guide young people in their faith. Zo Ann also made corsages for high school graduates, eighth-grade graduates, and their families. Among her many accomplishments, she was honored as a State Spelling Bee Champion.
Zo Ann loved her family greatly. She treasured time spent with those she loved and created a home filled with warmth, faith, music and laughter. Her legacy of kindness, devotion, and quiet service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Zo is survived by her husband, Garry Roland of Moscow; children, Cary Roland and wife Susan of Moscow; Candace Lampe and husband Willis of Pratt, and Amy Shirley and husband Tom of Scott City; brother, Roy Curtis of Wichita, Kansas; ten grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Avis Curtis; brother, Ray Curtis and infant sister, Judith Curtis.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Moscow Christian Fellowship Church in Moscow, Kansas, with Patty Lahey officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.
