We are excited to welcome Marc Svaty back to Liberal High School as the next Head Football
Coach of the Redskins program!
A 1994 graduate of Fredonia High School, Coach Svaty continued his football career at Bethany
College, where he earned team captain honors during his senior year. He also served as a
graduate assistant at Bethany during the 1998-1999 season.
Coach Svaty’s coaching journey began in Liberal in 1999. Starting at West Middle School, he
later moved to Liberal High School and continued climbing the coaching ranks. In 2003, he
became Defensive Coordinator under legendary coach Gary Cornelsen. Throughout his time in
Liberal, he worked alongside several highly respected coaches, including Rich Anderson, Steve
Warner, and Tom Schroeder.
In 2007, Coach Svaty accepted his first head football coaching position in Halstead, Kansas,
where he also served as a Physical Education and Strength & Conditioning teacher for USD
440 Halstead-Bentley. In addition to leading the football program, he coached high school track
& field and served on the school’s Building Leadership Team.
In 2014, Coach Svaty accepted the Head Football Coach position at Parsons High School,
where he served from 2014-2016. During his time at Parsons, he taught Physical Education and
Strength & Conditioning for USD 503 while also serving as Head Football Coach and Assistant
High School Track & Field coach.
Since returning to Fredonia in 2016, Coach Svaty has continued to serve USD 484 as a
Physical Education and Strength & Conditioning teacher while leading multiple athletic
programs and taking on several leadership roles within the district. In addition to serving as
Head Football Coach, he has coached junior high girls basketball and men’s golf, served on the
Building Leadership Team, and was Co-Athletic Director during the 2017-18 school year. His
commitment to students and school culture has also been recognized through honors including
being named a 2021 Teacher of the Year candidate and receiving the December 2025 “Stay
Gold” Staff Member Award.
Coach Svaty returns to Liberal with 27 years of experience in teaching and coaching,
including 19 seasons as a head football coach and a career record of 78-94. He is widely
respected for his leadership, commitment to student-athletes, and strong family values.
Coach Svaty shared his excitement about returning to Liberal, saying:
“I feel like I am returning home. I truly believe the Liberal football position is the
best high school football job in Kansas. My family and I cannot wait to get to
Liberal and get started!”

look forward to the future of our program under his leadership.”
Summer weights for all high school football players will begin June 1, 2026, at 7:00 AM.
