The Southwestern Heights Mustangs took two over Liberal 16-6 and 7-5 Monday afternoon and evening in Plains.

In game one, both teams were ready to hit.  LHS scored two in the first and Heights scored five.  Liberal plated four in the second and Heights had three for an 8-6 lead.  The Mustangs scored eight in the fourth to put the game out of reach.  Heights out-hit Liberal 12-7.  LHS committed seven errors.  Allie Champion hit a home run and was 2-3 with three RBI’s.  Haiden Lyon and Devaney Carter added two hits a piece.  Mariah Mendoza was 4-4 with four RBI’s for the Mustangs.

Game two was much lower scoring.  SWH scored two in the first.  Liberal scored two in the fourth to tie the game.  Heights put up three fourth inning runs to lead 5-2.  The Redskins scored three in the fifth to tie the game 5-5.  But the Mustangs answered with two in the bottom of the fifth for the 7-5 lead.  Heights out-hit LHS 9-6.  LHS had three errors.  Allie Champion slugged her second home run of the day.  Brooklyn Short was 3-4 with a double.  Melanie Cox and Addyson White had two hits a piece for Southwestern Heights.  Kaitlyn Reiss struck out nine in the win.  Devaney Carter struck out eight in the loss.

Southwestern Heights is 21-1.  Liberal is 6-14.  Liberal plays a double header at Hays Tuesday.
