Saints Split with Grizzlies

The Seward County Saints and the Butler Grizzlies split a pair of games Saturday at Brent Gould Field.  The Saints took game one 8-3 before Butler won game two 8-4.  The two teams are tied at 15-13 in the Jayhawk West.

In game one, the Saints put it all together.  They out-hit the Grizzlies 13-6 and SCCC did not have an error while BCC had two.  Seward scored two in the first after singles by Juan Alvarez and Grant Cox.  Jacob Urias led off the second with a double.  Mason Gilbert provided an RBI infield single.  SCCC scored  a fourth run on an error.  Butler tightened the game with a three run fifth.  In the fifth, Grant Cox singled and Blaine Chancy blasted a two run home run to right for the 6-3 lead.  Chancy ripped a two RBI double to left center in the sixth for the 8-3 lead.  Chancy was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game going 2-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBI’s.  Grant Cox was 3-4.  Beau Lang went 4 and 2/3 for the Saints.  Braden Whipple got the win going 2 and 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.

In game two, the Grizzlies got off to a strong start scoring two in the first, two in the third, and one in the fourth for a 5-0 lead.  The Saints plated three in the fifth aided by four walks.  Diego Munoz singled home a run.  Jhett Huffman doubled to left center in the sixth and scored on a Juan Alvarez line drive single to center to make it 5-4.  The Saints did not score again.  Butler plated one in the seventh and two in the ninth.  BCC out-hit SCCC 11-8.  Ashton Creighton was Black Hills Energy Player of the Game pitching five innings allowing two runs with six strikeouts and one walk.  Juan Alvarez and Diego Munoz had two hits a piece.

Butler is 26-23 overall and 15-13 in the Jayhawk West.  Seward is 23-31 overall and 15-13 in the Jayhawk West.  The Saints host Cloud for sophomore day Thursday at 1pm with Saints Dugout Show at 12:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM.
