The Kansas Department of Transportation has scheduled traffic changes on the U.S. 83 passing lane project north of Sublette to take effect the week of April 13. The project starts near the U.S. 56/83 junction and continues north for approximately 4 miles ending 2 miles south of the U.S. 83/160 junction.
Traffic along U.S. 83 will be shifted to the east onto the new alignment. Access from Road 180 west of the highway will be closed off while Road 180 access to the east of the highway will reopen. The newly built Access Road 180 will be open to local traffic. Access from properties along the new access road will enter and exit the highway utilizing the temporary access points from a half-mile north and south of Road 180.
A speed reduction of 35 mph will be in effect on a section of the project. The traveling public can expect minimal delays. A width restriction of 11 feet will be in place. KDOT will continue to provide updates regarding impacts to the traveling public as construction progresses.
Venture Corporation of Great Bend is the contractor on this $15.5 million project, and it is expected to be completed by the end of spring, weather permitting.
