The Barton Lady Cougars trailed for almost 37 minutes Wednesday night at Fleske Fieldhouse in Great Bend. But the Lady Cougars took their first lead with 3:15 to play and went on to beat the Seward Lady Saints 66-58. Barton out paced Seward in the fourth quarter 25-14. The Lady Cougars out scored the Lady Saints 45-30 in the second half. Seward led by nine in the first half and second half.
The Lady Saints and Lady Cougars were tied 10-10 after one. In the second quarter, the Lady Saints took leads of 18-12, 22-15, and 24-17. The Lady Saints led 26-17 with 1:15 remaining. SCCC led 28-21 at the half. Barton outscored Seward 20-16 in the third quarter to make the score 44-41 SCCC after three. Seward took an early 4th quarter lead of 49-41. Seward led 51-44 with 6:55 to play. Barton outscored Seward 22-7 in the last seven minutes of the game.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Avery Marchino with 25 points and seven rebounds.
Seward shot 34 percent from the field going 4-14 from three point range and 14-18 from the foul line. Barton was 14-24 from the field in the second half and shot 46 percent from the field for the game and 2-9 from three and 18-22 from the foul line.
Barton is 14-15 overall and 12-11 in the Jayhawk. Seward falls to 18-10 overall and 13-9 in the KJCCC. Seward has dropped five of the past six at Barton. Seward hosts Cowley for homecoming and sophomore recognition Saturday at 2pm with Saints Shoot-around at 1:45 on 1270 and 92.3 FM. Community Bank is the game sponsor.
