Against a west-southwest wind gusting up to 60 miles per hour, Hannah McCarter wins International Pancake Day Race with a time of 1:03.78. Sofia Martinez came in second and Kristen Woods was third. The temperature was 73 with hazy skies for the 77th annual Pancake Day Race with Olney, England. Olney’s Eloise Kramer ran the race in 1:05 to win the Olney leg of Pancake Day. Kramer is a third time winner.
McCarter, who was a runner in Liberal High School’s track program, is now a student at Washburn University in Topeka. McCarter is 19 and this was her first International Pancake Day Race. She participated in many youth pancake races throughout the years. Her father Troy McCarter ran in the men’s pacer race.
Liberal now leads the series 43-31 with two no contests. The Trans Atlantic Phone Call between Liberal and Olney determined McCarter is the overall winner. Liberal has won seven of the last nine and the last three Pancake Day races.
