Wrong Way Crash Kills Two

A two vehicle fatality accident occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 12:35am. The accident happened on Highway 54, 3.4 miles west of Liberal. A 2008 Saturn Vue driven by Marcos Morales-Lux, 36, of Guatemala was westbound on Highway 54 in the left, eastbound lane when he was hit head on by a 2016 Kenworth semi being driven by Paul Logan, 41, of Oak Grove Kansas. The semi was eastbound in the left eastbound lane. Logan attempted to avoid hitting the Saturn, who was traveling in the wrong lane, by swerving to the left, however he struck the Saturn head on.
Morales-Lux and a passenger in the Saturn, Encarnacion Perez-Guitierez, 29, of Guatemala, died at the scene. Logan was taken to Southwest Medical to be treated for his injuries. A passenger in the semi, Michael Drinnon, 55, of Lawrence KS, was not injured.
The area of the accident on Highway 54, was closed until after 12:00non. Seatbelts were in use in both vehicles.
