Watson Takes Baby Steps with Balko

KSCB News - August 24, 2009 12:00 am

The Balko Bison have a proud tradition. They won state in 1998 under coach Shane Cowan who stepped down from the program to go into private business. Ronnie Watson moves from the Perryton school district where he has been the past 15 years to take over the 8 man class C football program. Watson was also the head boys basketball coach at Dalhart from 1987-1993. Watson is trying to keep things simple with his Balko team. “I told the kids the first day, it’s not how you starts it’s how you finish,” Watson said. “We’re taking baby steps right now. We’re still learning what to do and how to do it. I think the wins will take care of themselves but I want these kids to first of all understand it’s just a game and we’re going to do the very best we can.”
