Voter Registration Up Statewide

The Democratic and Republican parties in Kansas have both gained registered voters since the August primary elections, while the number of unaffiliated voters has fallen.

Tuesday was the registration deadline for the Nov. 4 general election. Preliminary figures released Wednesday by the secretary of state’s office show Kansas gained about 8,370 voters, for a total of 1,743,790.

Registered Republicans now number 777,658, an increase of 12,265 since August. They account for 44.6 percent of registered voters.

Democrats picked up 4,813 voters, for a total of 427,011. They are 24.5 percent of registered voters.

Libertarians gained 262 voters, to bring their total to 12,917. The increase in 2.1 percent.

The number of unaffiliated voters decreased by 8,970, or 1.7 percent. The 526,204 unaffiliated voters represent 30.2 percent of those registered.
