UPDATE:Truck-Bus Accident Postpones Lady Saints vs Garden City Game

Garden City Community College’s women’s basketball team and coaching staff were involved in a motor vehicle accident late Wednesday afternoon en route to Liberal for their game against Seward County.

There were no major injuries to the 19 players and staff on the bus, according to head coach Nick Salazar. The two-vehicle accident occured approximately 20 miles north of Liberal when the GCCC bus and an oversized tanker collided, according to Salazar.

"There were some cuts and and bruises…" Salazar said. "But mostly a lot of anxious players."

The Kansas Jayhawk Conference game against Seward County was rescheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 2 in Liberal. The Lady Busters will return to action 2 p.m. Sunday with a home game against Dodge City at the Perryman Athletic Complex.

A highway accident on US 83 north of Liberal involving a truck and an athletic bus from Garden City Community College has postponed tonight’s planned Lady Saints basketball game.

Details are still being gathered about the accident, which took place north of the Liberal city limits but south of the Cimarron River bridge on US 83. According to Roy Allen, sports information director at SCCC, no injuries were reported in the accident. The Garden City women’s team is returning tonight to Garden City.

The Lady Saints basketball game from tonight’s schedule has been rescheduled for Monday, February 2. The Saints men’s game scheduled for tonight at 8 pm will be played as scheduled, and the live play by play will be aired on B 107.5 FM and on the audio stream at kscbnews.net, as well as Zito Media cable channel 9.
