UPDATE: House Explosion Near Plymell In Finney County

The Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of a house explosion near Garden City.

Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue tsays that it happened on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. near Plymell Road. The sheriff reported that the home was occupied by a family of four.

A 17-year old Spencer Unruh was found dead in the basement of the home by firefighters and two other members of the family, his 14-year old brother Riley and the boys’ mother Kelly Unruh, were transported to Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita for treatment.

Both remain in critical condition according to hospital officials. The fourth member of the family, the father, was outside at the time of the explosion and was not injured.

The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time. Sheriff Bascue said he heard the explosion from his home, 10 miles away from the scene

Finney County Sheriff Kevin Bascue confirms that a house exploded Saturday evening near the town of Plymell, about 12 miles south of Garden City.

The explosion happened about a quarter mile off of Highway 83 on Plymell Road.

It has not yet been confirmed if there are any injuries from the explosion or what caused the house to explode.
