Traffic Stop In Guymon Nets Arrest on Drug Charges

An 18 year old male was arrested Friday on three different charges.
Genaro E. Segura, of Guymon, was in a dark blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup when he improperly backed out of a driveway on S.W. 6th St. and began driving east in the westbound lane, according to documents obtained at the Texas County Courthouse.
A Guymon Police officer pulled the vehicle over and made contact with the driver. When Segura was asked for his drivers license and proof of insurance he stated that he did not have a license, but still produced an insurance form.
The officer noticed that Segura was acting very nervous, he then observed an open 24 pack of beer in the bed of the pickup. The officer, at that time, asked Segura to exit the vehicle where he placed him under arrest for driving without a license and minor in possession.
After handcuffing and escorting the young man to the police car, the officer did a routine inventory of the vehicle while waiting on the wrecker. While conducting the inventory the officer located a small plastic bag containing a white powdery substance, which later tested positive for cocaine.
After the wrecker arrived and took the vehicle, the officer transported Segura to the Guymon Police Department where he was interviewed after waiving his right to an attorney. He told police that the cocaine was not his and could have been one of his friends, but would not give any names.
Segura was then transported to the Texas County Detention center where he remains on a $25,000 bond.
Segura was charged with count one, possession of controlled substance, cocaine, within 1000 ft. of a school or park, a felony punishable by imprisonment for not less than four years to not more than 20 years and a fine up to $10,000; count two, minor drinking beer in a public place, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $100 and up to 20 hours of community service, or both; and count three, driving without a drivers license, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to 30 days or a fine of not less than $50 to not more than $300, or both.
