Southwest Medical Center is proud to announce the appointment of Edwin McGroarty, M.D. as the Medical Director of the Emergency Room at Southwest Medical Center.

Dr. McGroarty has been a physician for 20 years and served 10 years of Naval service. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He is employed by Envision Physician Services, which contracts with SWMC to provide staffing and schedule coverage of the emergency room by highly skilled physicians.

Duties of the ER Medical Director include coordinating with members of the medical staff to provide emergency services to patients, working with support departments to coordinate high-quality services for patients, providing input on EMS systems and disaster planning, and observing community trends to implement care procedures specific to population needs.

SWMC Emergency Department Director, Jandi Head, R.N., explains that Dr. McGroarty’s experience and leadership abilities are a benefit to patients in our community.

“Dr. McGroarty has knowledge in adult and pediatric emergency medicine, flexibility and adaptability to help us keep up with the constant changes in healthcare, compassion for members in our community, the ability to communicate well, and the desire to address issues and concerns to work towards excellent patient care,” Head said. She added that, “Our team loves working with him. He has shown tremendous care to staff, members of our community, and he is great with our patients. We are excited to be working with him to make Southwest Medical Center an excellent place to receive care.”

Dr. McGroarty said he is looking forward to serving patients in Southwest Kansas to continue to serve the medical needs of our community.

“I came to SWMC mainly because of the people here,” McGroarty said. “I knew some of the nurses, docs, and patients, and they were instrumental in convincing me it was the right place for me to be.”

Dr. McGroarty explained that keeping quality healthcare close to home continues to be the mission of the SWMC Emergency Department.

“As a department, our goals are to provide excellent evidence-based care, meet the needs of the community and the local medical providers, and to do so in an efficient manner,” McGroarty said.
