Survey Reveals District’s Strengths and tips to Improve

KSCB News - May 20, 2009 12:00 am

The Patron Insight Survey which contacted 400 patrons in the USD 480 School district talked with 150 people north of 15th street; 125 people between and including 15th and 2nd streets; and 125 south of 2nd street. 54% were females and 46% were males, with 76% of the people being long-term residents of Liberal for 15 or more years.

Another part of the survey asked citizens what the district’s strengths were. Responses were open-ended answers. The top answer was quality teachers. Other answers given were great community, strong curriculum, and don’t know, and nothing.

The survey also asked in what ways could the school district improve. The top four answers were pretty close in margin and they included pay better so that you can attract good teachers, don’t know, more focus on academics with less on athletics, and be better listeners. Other answers were need more classrooms, spend money more wisely, and need a new School Board.

One other part of the survey asked patrons where they get information about the district. The top answer was an overwhelming one with 95% of people saying they get it from friends and neighbors. The next two sources were The Southwest Times and The Daily Leader newspapers.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the summary of the survey according to Patron Insight.
