Slow Second Half Start Sinks Seward’s Season

For the second consecutive season, Seward finishes their season in

the quarterfinals of the Region 6 Women’s Basketball Tournament. Independence beat the Lady Saints 69-62 Saturday afternoon at Hartman Arena north of Wichita. The Lady Saints finish 23-8.

The Lady Saints committed 22 turnovers in the loss and shot 41 percent but made just 4-18 three pointers after making 19 in a 100-38 win over Allen County Wednesday night.

The Lady Saints led 28-27 at the half. Ironically, Seward led Indy 36-35 at halftime in Garden City November 25 before a 69-65 loss.

The Lady Pirates began the second half on a 22-4 run to make it 49-32 Lady Pirates.

KU transfer Diara Moore scored 22 and Dominique Mosley had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Ashlynn Knoll scored 17 in her final Seward Count game. Ricquia Jones scored 12 and dished eight assists. Kayla Thomas and Hanna Bogner scored 10 a piece in their final games as Lady Saints.

Indy is 26-5 and plays Monday at 1 p.m. in the semifinals.
