PHOENIX – The Seward County Community College softball team dropped a doubleheader to South Mountain Community College, 7-3 and 10-2, on Wednesday. The Lady Saints fell to 2-15.

GAME ONE
Seward gave up six runs in the first inning and could not dig itself out of the hole in the game one loss.
The Lady Saints started off strong and took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Madeline Owen, but that would be the lone bright spot. The Cougars came back and scored six runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-2 lead. All the runs scored with two outs.
Miranda Nester, Nissy Lechuga, Jaci Oakley, AJ Luna and Nicole each had a hit for the Lady Saints while Owen drove in the only runs.
Jordan Cordery allowed seven runs, only two earned, on eight hits, struck out two, walked three and allowed a homer over six innings in the loss.
South Mountain added a run in the fourth and Seward scored its final run in the fifth on a passed ball to cap the scoring at 7-3.

GAME TWO
The Lady Saints allowed 10 runs over three innings in a run-rule defeat in the nightcap.
After trailing 4-0 over three innings, Seward came back and cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs, AJ Luna had an RBI single and Cassandra Esquibel added a run-scoring double to draw within 4-2.
That would be as close as the Lady Saints would get as the Cougars scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth and capped the scoring with a run in the fifth.
Miranda Nester, Luna and Esquibel had the only Seward hits.
Alyssah Pontoja was tagged for 10 runs, seven earned, on 12 hits, struck out five, walked three and two homers over 4 2/3 innings.

PHOENIX – The Seward County Community College softball team split a pair games, beating Lake Region State, 12-3, and losing to Dawson, 15-8, on Thursday. The Lady Saints earned their first win of the Spring Break road trip and improved to 3-16.

LAKE REGION STATE RECAP
Seward rallied from a 3-0 deficit and exploded for 12 runs in two innings against Lake Region State to post their first win on their road trip.
The Lady Saints fell behind 3-0 after three and half innings before storming back for six runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth for the run-rule victory.
Jordan Cordrey and Jaci Oakley each had a two-run homer to power Seward, which also got a sacrifice fly from Nissy Lechuga and an RBI single by Alyssah Pontoja in the fourth. The Lady Saints were not done as they added another six runs in the fifth, keyed by two-run doubles from Madeline Owen and Lechuga and a solo shot from Pontoja, for the run-rule victory.
Every Lady Saint had a hit and Oakley, Pontoja, Owen and Cordrey had multiple hits and RBIs. AJ Luna and Nicole Nelson also had a pair of hits for Seward.
Cordrey gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits, struck out seven and walked two over five innings to earn the win.

DAWSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE RECAP
The Seward offense was strong early, but could not keep up with Dawson in the loss.
The Lady Saints started off fast when AJ Luna and Alyssah Pontoja drew run-scoring walks and Jordan Cordrey followed with a grand slam to open a 6-0 margin in the top of the first inning.
Dawson answered back with five runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to one. Seward extended its lead to 8-5 in the top of the second on the strength of Emily Mojica’s two-run homer. That would be the final run for the Lady Saints while the Buccaneers were not done.
Dawson added a run in the second and went ahead for good with three runs in the third for a 9-8 lead. The Buccaneers put the game away with a five-run fourth inning and finished the scoring with a run in the sixth.
Miranda Nester and Nissy Lechuga each added two hits for Seward.
Pontoja gave up 15 runs, 10 earned, on 16 hits, struck out two, walked two and two homers over six innings in taking the loss.
