Seward Outlasts Odessa

2009 NJCAA Women’s Softball Friday Final Score — #15 Seward County CC 3, #8 Odessa CC 2 (12 inn.)

(ST. GEORGE, Utah — May 16, 2009) Seward County’s Katelyn Glenn legged out an inside-the-park home run with two outs in the bottom of the 12th inning to give her club a thrilling 3-2 victory over #8-seed Odessa CC in a consolation bracket elimination game at the 2009 NJCAA National Championship tournanment Friday afternoon at the Canyons Complex. The #15-seeded SCCC (40-15) will advance to play #5 Florida CC-Jacksonville in another elimination game Friday at 1 p.m. (MDT), while Odessa is eliminated with a final season record of 36-28.

Glenn finished with three hits and two runs scored to lead Seward, while Jill Rodgers drove in two of Seward’s three runs with a two-run double in the first inning. Starting pitcher Courtney Auger went the distance, scattering nine hits and two runs over 12 innings with seven strikeouts.

Odessa finished with nine hits, including three safeties for Whitney Kuhrt, along with two hits and an RBI for Khiana Carter. Odessa starter Katelyn Stanley suffered the lossed despite striking out seven in 11.2 innings of work.
